ManorhamiltonManorhamilton is the largest town in North County Leitrim. It is located on the N16 and approximately 25km from Sligo town and 40 km from Enniskillen.

The surrounding area is characterised by its mountains and large lakes with deep glacial valleys radiating from the centre of the land mass to form a spectacular scenic land scape.

Manorhamilton is a great holiday destination with plenty to do no matter where your interests lie.
The town boasts a number of historical sights which include the ruins of the baronial mansion built by Sir Frederick Hamilton in 1634.

Parkes CastleParkes Castle is located on the Sligo Dromahaire road on the NE shore of Lough gill. This impressive fortified manor house sits on the shores of one of Ireland’s most beautiful lakes-Lough Gill. The splendour of Parkes Castle is immediately evident as you drive around the lake. A guided tour of the castle is given every hour in peek times.

The Wild Rose Waterbus operates one of the most beautiful and scenic lakes in Ireland-Lough Gill. This majestic all weather craft travels between parkes Castle to the centre of Sligo Town. During the trip, the skipper recites tales and folklore, history and poetry associated with Ireland’s most famous son, W.B. Yates.

Glencar WaterfallSituated a few miles from Manorhamilton is the beautiful Glencar Waterfall. This enchanting waterfall was made famous by W.B. Yeats in his poem, “The Stolen Child”
The waterfall is impressive and can be viewed from a lovely wooded walk. Picnic facilities are also provided.

Organic CentreThe Organic Centre is located in the unspoiled countryside of North Leitrim just 8 miles from Manorhamilton. This is Irelands leading centre for education and information on organic farming and gardening. It contains a heritage garden, a children’s garden, a taste garden, a willow sculpture area, and many other attractions. Well worth a visit!

Lough Mac Nean Sculpture Trail.

Lough Mac Nean
10 minutes drive from Manorhamilton is this wonderful and interesting Sculpture Trail. Situated along the boundaries of Fermanagh, Cavan and Leitrim, this trail consists of unique sculptures, each with its own significance to its location. The art pieces, all carried out by renowned Irish artists, are representative of their communities, beliefs, past and future.

Angling
Drumcliff River, Glencar Lake and also 9 miles of the Bonet River are the most popular fishing waters here. Access to the lakes and rivers in the area are good. Both the rivers and lakes are pollution free and are excellent for salmon and sea trout.

Horse Riding
There are many horse riding stables within the area but the best I have come across is Island View Stables. This family run centre have fantastic treks to suit all standard and ability of riders across some fabulous and secluded beaches in the area.

Golf

Bundoran Golf Club
The nearest golf course, Castle Dargan is 10 minutes drive from the house. The championship course designed by Darren Clarke was recently commended for being the best course in the North West of Ireland.

Walks
North Leitrim is famous for its hill walking. There are several festivals throughout the year with a range of guided walks including challenging hill walks and country rambles in the spectacular uplands of North Leitrim. These are run by the Holey Soles Hill walking Club and a wonderful way to enjoy North Leitrim.

Marble ArchThe Marble Arch Caves European Geopark is host to one of Europe’s finest show caves allowing visitors to explore a fascinating, natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers.

Arts/Entertainment

Glens Centre
The Glens Centre is located in a converted Methodist church which dates back to the 1820’s. This intimate theatre has tiered seating for up to 140, excellent acoustics and is suitable for a wide range of performances. The centre also houses rehearsal space, recording facilities and accommodation for visiting performers.

Leitrim Sculpture Centre

The Leitrim Sculpture is based in Manorhamilton. The centre resulted from the pioneering efforts of the Manorhamilton Arts Group which has been working from 1995 for the establishment of a centre for sculptors. Among its founding members the group had a number of locally based full time artists of national and international repute in stone, wood and bronze.
